Approximately 50 cars have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a statement.
Officers state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.
The substance had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Officers then discovered many other marked cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials state initial examinations suggest the substance was likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no lead as to where it came from; investigators are currently not aware of any injuries in association with the incident," they added.
City officials stated they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the community for information.
A high-ranking political figure stated the incident made him stunned and required to be solved promptly.
"This event hits the core of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he posted on a platform, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
